Saturday, March 21st is recognized across the country as National Co-parenting Day. When our Family Law Clients prioritize their children’s wellbeing rather than escalating conflict throughout their case, healthy co-parenting becomes attainable.

Below are four characteristics of a healthy co-parenting relationship:

  1. Refraining from badmouthing the other parent, especially in front of the minor children.
  2. Being respectful and timely during “handoffs” and gatherings where your co-parent is present.
  3. Civilly communicating any emergencies or health concerns related to the minor children with the other parent.
  4. Holding space for your children’s grief when they feel the emotional weight of Divorce and allowing them to miss the other parent when he or she isn’t around.

Over the years, we have witnessed Former Spouses end their marriage and evolve from husband and wife to healthy co-parents for the benefit of their children. In fact, our Family Law Attorneys are advocates of Collaborative Law. When both spouses have common goals regarding the Dissolution of Marriage and are interested in resolving their case more privately, this approach may be an ideal option.

Did you know two of our Family Law Attorneys at The Marks Law Firm are Collaboratively trained? Attorney Tom Marks has over 16 years of Collaborative Law experience and believes in the process. He is committed to helping Family Law Clients avoid Litigation, when appropriate. In addition to being a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator, Attorney Amy Mitchell is also trained in Collaborative Law. Although it may take time and a path to forgiveness, even those who have experienced a contentious Divorce can come to a place of mutual understanding and respect for one another. We know that there are many moving parts to Divorce. Two co-parents who are willing to practice empathy and humility can provide their children with stability.

On behalf of our Team at The Marks Law Firm, Happy National Co-parenting Day. If you need support and resources to get to a place of healthy co-parenting, we are here to help.
